Building Information Modelling (BIM)

ISO 19650 is a series of standards that its foundation was based on the PAS 1192 series which provides a “best-practice” method for the development, organisation and management of production information using Building Information Modelling (BIM) for the construction industry. It provides an internationally recognized information management process framework for organizations to adapt to their assets or projects of any scale and complexity.

Building Information Modelling is the process of generating and managing building data through the whole life cycle of a built asset, from its initial design, construction, to maintaining and de-commissioning. With the implementation of BIM, it facilitates project management and cross-disciplinary collaboration by sharing project information between engineers, owners, architects and contractors. This improves the accuracy of communication between different stakeholders and hence reduces error and misunderstandings.

Certification Standard

  • ISO 19650-1: 2018

ISO 19650-1: 2018 Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) — Information management using building information modelling — Part 1: Concepts and principles provides recommendations for a framework to manage information including exchanging, recording, versioning and organizing for all actors, and it is applicable to the whole life cycle of any built asset, including strategic planning, initial design, engineering, development, documentation and construction, day-to-day operation, maintenance, refurbishment, repair and end-of-life.

  • ISO 19650-2: 2018

ISO 19650-2: 2018 Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) — Information management using building information modelling — Part 2: Delivery phase of the assets specifies requirements for information management, in the form of a management process, within the context of the delivery phase of assets and the exchanges of information within it, using building information modelling.

  • ISO 19650-3: 2020

ISO 19650-3: 2020 Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) — Information management using building information modelling — Part 3: Operational phase of the assets specifies requirements for information management, in the form of a management process, within the context of the operational phase of assets and the exchanges of information within it, using building information modelling. The requirements can be achieved through direct actions carried out by the organization in question or can be delegated to another party.

Benefits of Certification

  • Demonstrate alignment to industry recognized best practice

  • Minimize wasteful activities and increase predictability around cost and time, through a common approach to the management of information

  • Help in increasing the efficiency of information processes, improve the clarity of the information, and facilitate better collaboration

  • Deliver the right message to the right recipient.
